I have been in the dental field since 1964 when I started in the Lab with my husband (Dr. Mejido’s father). Then when Judy graduated I came to her office and stayed because of the patients. I love speaking with the patents and making them cafecito.
Growing up in this dental office, the front desk is where I would do homework and hygiene’s chairs are where I would watch cartoons. Now I am currently attending Florida international University majoring in International Business and Management. This office has given me the opportunity to apply what I’m learning in the classroom in a real work environment and for that I am extremely grateful. I am so glad to be continuing the legacy Dr. Mejido started with this three generation family business that treats their patients as an extension of that family.
Believe it or not, I decided to be a dentist at the age of 10. I had an accident that fractured teeth, therefore, having my first experience at the dentist. The doctor inspired me to become what I am today. At 22, I finished dental school in Cuba, and worked 14 years, but due to the lack of opportunities in my country I left and came to the U.S. After obtaining my Dental Hygienist License, there was struggle for me to find a practice that would allow me to adjust easily with my living principles and work style.
I thank God for putting Dr. Mejido and her practice in my way. The team here at A1 Care, offers the same treatment that the doctor whom inspired me offered, with such delicacy and professionalism to make a difference in people’s lives.
Even before I began studying for my dental degree in Cuba, I had the passion and drive to help people improve their dental health. I feel that these are qualities I inherited from my father; he is also a dentist. In fact, I was born the day that he graduated from dental school. This inspired me throughout my studies and in years since.
I became a dentist in 1985 and I worked in our town’s dental clinic for twelve years. Eventually I became the clinic’s supervisor and managed a team of five dentists and six dental assistants, working to improve dental health for those in need.
My family and I moved to Miami in 1997 and this meant I could no longer practice as a dentist. In the beginning I worked as a dental assistant. I became a dental hygienist in 2001.
I love working in Dr. Judy Mejido’s practice because here we have an exceptional team and patient care is our priority, always having more opportunities to learn and grow.
As a 21 year old senior at Florida International University, Alexx is new to the world of dentistry. Majoring in Psychology, she is on the Pre-Med track and hopes to become a surgeon in the future. After a traumatizing experience at a dental office, Alexx wrote off dentists completely and was absolutely terrified of even getting a cleaning. However, in 2018, she became a patient at A1 Care and fell in love. This is what she had to say about her time here: "I cannot believe that I am a part of such an incredible team. I just want to help our patients feel as comfortable and safe as I did when I first got here. It makes me beyond proud to be able to be a part of something so special - where our patients and our team members are family. Dr. Mejido has changed my life (and my smile) forever!
Growing up, children tend to feel their superheroes’ pain and emotions as if they were their own. As a child, my greatest inspiration was my mother. As beautiful as she was in my eyes, my mother spent her entire life struggling with her smile. Watching her constantly cover her mouth when she laughed, or never wanting to take pictures, I always wished I could give her the gift to smile freely with no insecurities. After my mother got sick, I started to realize the importance of health care providers who truly care about their patients, and began to see the difference in providers who solely commit to putting their patients first. Today at 21 years old, I find myself grateful to be on this journey in an office with others who share the same passion I do – impacting every patient we come across, as I honor the person whose smile I couldn’t.
When I finished high school I decided what I wanted for my future being, I graduated in 2015 as a doctor in general dentistry in Cuba, I practiced my profession for two and a half years and then I came to the United States where I obtained the certificate as a dental assistant and had the pleasure and the opportunity to belong to this beautiful family of A1care everyone. My goal is to revalidate my degree in the USA to be a dentist. I have always had the vocation to help others and I feel great satisfaction in seeing the most confident people showing a beautiful and healthy smile.
Since I was a child, I grew up attached to this profession because my father was a dentist. I felt like it was my destiny. When I finished high school, I decided to follow his footsteps. After five years of dental school in Cuba, in 2016 I graduated as a dentist. That same year, I moved to the United States and my entire life changed. Once here I got a certified as a dental assistant. After joining this office, I have grown personally and professionally. I am well versed in what it is to be a dental assistant, and I am in charge of the lab work as well. My goal is to revalidate my degree in this country because dentistry is my passion and this is all I want to do in my life!
I fell in love with dentistry at an early age. By 12 I knew this is what I wanted to do. I graduated as a dental assistant from Cuba in 1991. My first job in the USA was working with Dr. Mejido. My favorite part of dentistry is the difference we are making in the patients’ lives. Whether it is relieving pain or of the confidence again after treatment taking care of their oral health. I love working in Dr. Mejido’s office because patient care is the priority and the team truly makes it a pleasure to work here.
