Believe it or not, I decided to be a dentist at the age of 10. I had an accident that fractured teeth, therefore, having my first experience at the dentist. The doctor inspired me to become what I am today. At 22, I finished dental school in Cuba, and worked 14 years, but due to the lack of opportunities in my country I left and came to the U.S. After obtaining my Dental Hygienist License, there was struggle for me to find a practice that would allow me to adjust easily with my living principles and work style.
I thank God for putting Dr. Mejido and her practice in my way. The team here at A1 Care, offers the same treatment that the doctor whom inspired me offered, with such delicacy and professionalism to make a difference in people’s lives.
Even before I began studying for my dental degree in Cuba, I had the passion and drive to help people improve their dental health. I feel that these are qualities I inherited from my father; he is also a dentist. In fact, I was born the day that he graduated from dental school. This inspired me throughout my studies and in years since.
I became a dentist in 1985 and I worked in our town’s dental clinic for twelve years. Eventually I became the clinic’s supervisor and managed a team of five dentists and six dental assistants, working to improve dental health for those in need.
My family and I moved to Miami in 1997 and this meant I could no longer practice as a dentist. In the beginning I worked as a dental assistant. I became a dental hygienist in 2001.
I love working in Dr. Judy Mejido’s practice because here we have an exceptional team and patient care is our priority, always having more opportunities to learn and grow.
When I was 16 years old I decided that I wanted to become a dentist, but had I done so back in Cuba, I would not have been able to come to the U.S. at 17 years old. Soon after arriving in Miami, I started researching dental career opportunities, and I realized being a Dental Hygienist fits more with my personality and my passion for educating.
Being the determined and perseverant person I am, I pushed myself to learn English and took the required classes to become a Dental Hygienist. In 2016 I was accepted to the outstanding, rigorous, and very competitive Dental Hygiene program of Miami Dade College. Two years later, I graduated from the program, with honors, and well prepared to serve the community of Miami in excellent oral health care prevention and education.
Dr. Mejido’s practice allows me to further develop my dental hygiene skills while providing my patients with the best possible dental care.
I became involved in the dental field in 2007 while I was job searching and was hired at a dental practice. I have since worked at three different practices, A1 Care being my final stop in 2009. I took a big interest in this field, especially being that I like caring for people and in dentistry patient care is a priority. I enjoy this type of work because it gives me a sense of fulfillment knowing that patients leave happy and satisfied with their work.
I started my career in dentistry at the age of sixteen. My neighbors had a dental office and I would go every after school to help. As I went daily I became more interested in the health profession. I then became a dental assistant. I loved how every patient had a different situation, but always left with a huge smile! I also loved helping and caring for patients! I enjoyed being an assistant for over seven years. Later, I continued my dental path into the administrative part of the business. I have now been practicing the business side for over 15 years. I studied Business Administration at Miami Dade College. I truly enjoy interacting with patients and getting to know them like family. I am committed to having each patient leave with a complete understanding of their treatment from start to finish. I am really excited to have joined Dr. Mejido’s amazing team in December of 2015 and I am looking forward to a great future with many beautiful smiles!
Ever since I was little I dreamed of a career in the dental field. Dedicating myself to my studies and seeking for the best I came upon an opportunity to obtain experience at A1 Care. I wish to someday educate and help people obtain a beautiful smile and be able to achieve my dreams as a dental hygienist.
When I fled Cuba in the year 2000 in search for a better future and went to Spain, I decided to begin my studies in the Dental Health field. I was always fascinated with improving people’s health and smile.
A lack of opportunity in Spain led me to the United States, I was determined to accomplish my dream.
I put myself through school and have been working as a dental assistant ever since.
I love what I do.
Ever since I was a little girl I have always been linked to this profession. When I finished high school, I decided to follow in my father’s footsteps of becoming a dentist. When I graduated as a dentist in Cuba, I decided to move to the U.S. and got certified as a dental assistant. I worked for different clinics until joining the A1Care team, which has undoubtedly been the greatest opportunity for improvement. My goal is to re-validate my degree and practice as a Dentist in the near future.
My passion for dentistry started in elementary School where they had a dental office for students. Since then I dreamt of becoming a Dentist. I went to the University Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho in Venezuela, for six years and graduated with my Dental Degree. My passion became greater once I graduated, so I decided to get my Master’s degree from the University of Panama., where I obtained my three year certificate in Periodontics. Once I finished, I could not return to Venezuela so I decided to start my new life in the U.S. A1 Care has given me the amazing opportunity as a Dental Assistant to serve and help people achieve beautiful smiles. My ultimate goal is to some day be able to practice as a Dentist.
