Dr. Judy Mejido

DMD, PA

Dr. Judy Mejido, born in Yonkers, New York to parents who were sole proprietors of a dental laboratory has been exposed to this field from early on in her life. Throughout her younger years, she received first hand knowledge and experience from working with her parents in the family owned business.

Upon graduation from high school in 1985 she went on to complete her undergraduate studies at Barry University. While attending Barry, she worked as a dental assistant at a dentist office in the Miami area. Believe it or not, I decided to be a dentist at the age of 10. I had an accident that fractured teeth, therefore, having my first experience at the dentist. The doctor inspired me to become what I am today. At 22, I finished dental school in Cuba, and worked 14 years, but due to the lack of opportunities in my country I left and came to the U.S. After obtaining my Dental Hygienist License, there was struggle for me to find a practice that would allow me to adjust easily with my living principles and work style.

I thank God for putting Dr. Mejido and her practice in my way. The team here at A1 Care, offers the same treatment that the doctor whom inspired me offered, with such delicacy and professionalism to make a difference in people’s lives.

Even before I began studying for my dental degree in Cuba, I had the passion and drive to help people improve their dental health. I feel that these are qualities I inherited from my father; he is also a dentist. In fact, I was born the day that he graduated from dental school. This inspired me throughout my studies and in years since.

I became a dentist in 1985 and I worked in our town’s dental clinic for twelve years. Eventually I became the clinic’s supervisor and managed a team of five dentists and six dental assistants, working to improve dental health for those in need.

My family and I moved to Miami in 1997 and this meant I could no longer practice as a dentist. In the beginning I worked as a dental assistant. I became a dental hygienist in 2001.

I love working in Dr. Judy Mejido’s practice because here we have an exceptional team and patient care is our priority, always having more opportunities to learn and grow.

Since growing up I remember going to the dentist and questioning everything he did to me. It was always an exciting experience to go to his dental office; I was never afraid of anything. I loved the way he took care of his patients and I told myself that one day I would love to do the same for others. I had the opportunity to become a dental assistant while attending high school and worked part time with a great dentist for seven years. I realized that caring for patients was my passion and I was determined to change their dental fears to a positive experience. I was also determined to educate my patients about the importance of oral health.

I became involved in the dental field in 2007 while I was job searching and was hired at a dental practice. I have since worked at three different practices, A1 Care being my final stop in 2009. I took a big interest in this field, especially being that I like caring for people and in dentistry patient care is a priority. I enjoy this type of work because it gives me a sense of fulfillment knowing that patients leave happy and satisfied with their work.

I started my career in dentistry at the age of sixteen. My neighbors had a dental office and I would go every after school to help. As I went daily I became more interested in the health profession. I then became a dental assistant. I loved how every patient had a different situation, but always left with a huge smile! I also loved helping and caring for patients! I enjoyed being an assistant for over seven years. Later, I continued my dental path into the administrative part of the business. I have now been practicing the business side for over 15 years. I studied Business Administration at Miami Dade College. I truly enjoy interacting with patients and getting to know them like family. I am committed to having each patient leave with a complete understanding of their treatment from start to finish. I am really excited to have joined Dr. Mejido’s amazing team in December of 2015 and I am looking forward to a great future with many beautiful smiles!

When I fled Cuba in the year 2000 in search for a better future and went to Spain, I decided to begin my studies in the Dental Health field. I was always fascinated with improving people’s health and smile.

A lack of opportunity in Spain led me to the United States, I was determined to accomplish my dream.

I put myself through school and have been working as a dental assistant ever since.

I love what I do.

As long as I could remember, I knew that a smile meant happiness. In my early teens going to the dentist was always fun. For my regular dental maintenances, my family would go to a dental school. I remember the excitement the student doctors had. They would tell jokes, laugh, and made it such a great experience that as an adult I knew I wanted to give that same energy back. Just a few years ago I attended dental assisting school in order to work the environment I knew and loved. Since then I joined the A1 Care dental team making sure that everyone walks out with a great smile!

At first going to the dentist meant complete horror to me, mostly because it scared me. Although completely terrified, I wanted to know exactly what the dentist was doing and why. As I began to ask questions, I became more interested in dentistry.

It became evident to me that one day I wanted to be a dentist and own my practice. During my first year attending Florida International University I began to shadow Dr. Mejido, as well as her staff, to make sure this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I am ecstatic to say that Dr. Mejido and her staff peaked my interest in dentistry.

They taught me everything I know. One of the most important things I have learned is the true meaning of making patients happy. It makes my day watching the reaction patients have when they see the work done. One of the main reasons I want to be a dentist is to make people feel more confident and smile more often.

I aspire to graduate from Florida International University in 2015 and continue to follow my dreams by attending dental school.

I have been involved in the dental field as long as I can remember because of my father, who is an exceptional oral surgeon. Due to this fact my passion in dentistry started at a very young age. Once it was time to choose my career path I immediately knew I wanted to pursue dentistry. I began dental school in Cuba. After I had finished my fourth year of dental school, I had to move to the United States. I had an amazing opportunity to start working with Dr. Mejido and the A1 Care Team! I am still working towards my goals of becoming a dentist and I will not stop until I reach my life long dream!
