What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that uses a series of plastic, nearly invisible trays to properly position and align your teeth.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Once you’re finished wearing your Invisalign aligners, you transition to a retainer. A retainer is a custom oral appliance that prevents your teeth from shifting.

What does Invisalign treatment involve?

To determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign, the team reviews your dental health history, conducts an oral exam, and asks about your treatment goals.
If you have gum disease or cavities, they might recommend periodontal treatment, a filling, or a root canal before moving forward.
If your teeth and gums are healthy and in optimal condition, the team takes impressions of your mouth using an intraoral scanner. They upload your scans to a computer design program and develop an orthodontic care plan that maps the movements of your teeth.
After establishing an orthodontic care plan, the team sends your scans to a laboratory that manufactures your first set of Invisalign aligners. About a week later, you return to the office and try them on. The team adjusts them to ensure they fit comfortably and securely.
During treatment, wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day, only removing them to eat. Follow the team’s instructions carefully and make sure to attend each orthodontic appointment.

Do I need to clean my Invisalign aligners?

Clean your Invisalign aligners regularly to prevent them from collecting bacteria, food particles, and plaque.
Rinse them in cool tap water several times a day and brush them with toothpaste and a soft-bristle toothbrush before going to bed each night. For deeper cleanings, ask the team about the Invisalign cleaning system.
